Privacy Policy — Let's Watch Something
Last updated: April 21, 2026
This Privacy Policy describes how the “Let's Watch Something” mobile application (“the App”, “we”, “us”) handles information when you use it.
Information we do not collect
The App does not collect, store, sell, or share any personally identifiable information. We do not require you to create an account, and we do not ask for your name, email address, phone number, location, or contacts.
Information stored only on your device
To make the App useful between sessions, the following data is stored locally on your device only and never leaves it:
- Watchlist — the movies and TV shows you save.
- Notification preferences — which upcoming releases you've asked to be reminded about.
- App settings — display, audio, and gameplay preferences.
You can clear all of this data at any time by uninstalling the App or clearing its storage in your device's settings.
Microphone and voice input
The App includes an optional push-to-talk voice input so you can speak to Chip instead of typing. The microphone is only activated while you are physically holding down the mic button, and recording stops the moment you release it. The App never records in the background and never listens for a wake-word.
How the audio is handled depends on your platform:
- iOS and Android — the recorded audio clip is sent over HTTPS to our backend, which forwards it to OpenAI's Whisper transcription service to convert your speech to text. The text transcript is returned to the App and shown in the chat input. Neither the App, our backend, nor OpenAI retains the audio file after the transcript is produced. See OpenAI's privacy policy at https://openai.com/policies/privacy-policy.
- Web — speech recognition runs on your device using the browser's built-in Web Speech API. No audio leaves your device.
You can avoid sending any voice input at all by switching the input mode to “Text” in Settings, or by simply never pressing the mic button. Microphone access can also be revoked at any time from your device's system Settings.
Third-party services
The App communicates with the following services to deliver its core functionality:
- TMDB (The Movie Database) — used to fetch movie and TV metadata, posters, cast, and trailers. Requests sent to TMDB do not include any personal identifiers from you. See TMDB's privacy policy at https://www.themoviedb.org/privacy-policy.
- YouTube — embedded inside the App to play official trailers via the YouTube IFrame Player. Use of the embedded player is subject to YouTube's terms and privacy policy at https://policies.google.com/privacy.
- Push notifications — when you opt in to be notified about an upcoming release, an anonymous push token is issued by Apple Push Notification service (APNs) or Google Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM). This token is stored locally and used only to deliver the notifications you requested.
Children
The App does not knowingly collect any information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information, please contact us so we can remove it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top of this document will reflect any changes.
Contact
If you have questions about this Privacy Policy, please reach out to the developer through the contact information published on the app's store listing.
